I've been a very naughty boy.

I haven't blogged in while, not something I intended to do.

So in the three months I've been away from you sexy people, I've had a couple of mental ooh-la-la's and worked out that I'm in the wrong career. I'm half-way up a mountain that I don't want to climb.

Long story short, the name of this blog (needsmorework) has some meaning now, I'm unemployed.

However it's not all bad, I have noticed that I've matured and I'm pretty cool, I might suit up

There is one thing I have noticed, there are some people among us who believe that those who are unemployed are lesser human beings. You can tell who these people are a mile off. What they seem to forget is that not many people like being unemployed, I for one hate it, so I hit the ground running, in these four or weeks, I've already had three interviews and I have another one on Wednesday (look at me showing off.)

So my message is this, your job doesn't make you who you are. To be completely honest, I don't know what makes us who we are, if I did, I could make a fortune.

Instead I ask for you to do one thing, if you know someone who is a bit down on their luck, pick them up, dust them off, pat them on the shoulder, tell them that they are doing great and stand by them. I'm lucky that i got the long straw and that I have some awesome people around me. Sadly there are those who are not as fortunate as me.

So don't leave comments saying that your sorry for me because I'm fine, I've got a entire pit crew behind me. Instead, leave a comment saying how you made someones day suck less and if you are a bit down and think you're not awesome, you're wrong. I think you're legen -

Wait for it...

Writing for myself.

I have just finished a long six hour straight article writing session for my job, now it's time to write for myself before I end up punching the screen of the laptop.

I am currently sat on the couch of my living watching The Magnificent Seven, one of the only westerns that I like while drinking coffee from my Thomas the Tank Engine cup. I have now decided that I must learn how to ride a horse.

In some of my previous posts I talked about how I was writing a novel. That has now become a radio play thing, no doubt that this will slowly morph into a film script then into a video series and back around to novel. To save some face, I decided to design one of the star-space ships that would be in the universe-galaxy thing, it is needless to say that I failed art for a reason. This picture below is the view from the front. The idea is that there is one command pod and other pods can be changed around so that the ship can perform different tasks.

However, I appear to have drawn (at least to my immature mind) a cock and balls. What does that say about me? Instead of drawing a ship of incredible speed and wonder, I draw an object of incredible speed and wonder, shame it's not a self portrait.

Today I found a random stick of ram.

Jamie Cullum and my iOS 7 review will have to wait, i'm too tired right now. Apart from that, it's been pretty uneventful.

State of the blog.

This post marks the 102nd day that this blog has been live. They say that the first 100 days in office are the most important and the same can be extended to blogs, many fall short and are just left to decay, but not this one. You will never get rid of me, unless I die, which would be quite unfortunate.

I thought that it was time for a state of the blog address, it the same as a state of the union address expect with less money, less politics and you have to imagine me as Bill Clinton, but without the long line of women (old joke, I know.)

At the time of writing this post there have been 1169 views over 22 different posts (this post being the 23rd.) That is amazing, people are actually taking the time out of their day to read what I write on this little corner of the Internet, I have only one question for you, are you high?

The most successful post of mine is "In Summly, I'm Feedly My Current FlipBoard While Checking My Pulse." I think I got the timing right with that one, I posted that about 2 weeks or so before Google announced that they were going to retire Google Reader, because of this, the post gained another batch of views, jumping from about 25 to 121.

Just to cover myself, I didn't actually know that Google was going to retire Reader until, it was announced, I do not have inside connections. Although I really wish I did. It puts me in a tough position, do I sell my soul to Google or Apple?

I also made it into Jibby's top one hundred blogs list, the fact that someone wrote about this blog on there blog (blogception) is not just amazing, but also incredibly humbling . +Sam Bowden thank you so much.

Unfortunately blog everyday in April did not do as well as I hoped, mostly because I was too ill to write anything. If you want to know the details, one end was like the Nigeria Falls, the other was like the Iguazu Falls.

This blog to me is more then a blog, it's an extension of myself and my inner thoughts, it's a place where I can get things out in the open, clear my mind and get a second opinion. If you haven't already taken up blogging, do it. It is so good for you. I even persuaded one of my friends +Lauren Brabrook to start up. Her blog can be found here: www.onedayiwillflyaway20.blogspot.co.uk

I am also going through a period of professional change. In my career, there are going to be a lot of opportunities for me to climb the ladder (for want of a better phrase.) It has taken a lot of risks on my part, I left a very safe job at River Island to do this, budgeting is now my number one priority, the last thing that I want to do right now is go back into retail, although I've got over a years experience over two different stores in a tonne of different positions, it is not what I want to do with the rest of my life.

I'm also seeing changes in myself, growing up, I was the mature kid, the one who doesn't seem to have a childhood but is rather born as a adult. Growing up, I was a very shy and reserved kid, but I'm getting rid of that shyness that used to stop me from doing what I wanted. I always had to have someone with me when I go to new places or taking to new people, now I can't think of anything better to do.

I was the teachers pet of all teachers pets, but with style, if I didn't like the piece of homework that I was given, I would just do it on the bus. I would simply remember what was told to me taking a mental image of the whiteboard or the slide and recalling it when I needed. I am now reaping the benefits of that, I can recall whole conversions, and remember so many random facts. I could make a whole new post on how my brain works.

Yet, I cannot remember peoples names.

This may seem like a oxymoron (look at me using big words) but I'm maturing while becoming a kid again, I find so many things wonderful now, from aspects of science that I ignored at school because I just wanted to learn about space and not the cells that are in plant, to fiction.

I used to think that fiction was a waste of time, the only stories that I cared about was Harry Potter, there is a whole other story about how I got into Harry Potter, but I'll save that for another post.

Here goes nothing

I thought I try something different this month, everyone on YouTube seems to enjoy doing this, so I decided to convert the VEDA format slightly and blog every day in April.

Today I did something that was quite a good exercise for me, I have just applied for the Nico Colchester Journalism Fellowship 2013. The entry criteria was simple, you must be a EU citizen and write an 800 word article on 'What should the European Union do to keep Britain in?'

The aim is to help continental writers better understand Britain and for British writers to better understand Europe, is a three month fellowship at ether The Financial Times or The Economist as well as £5000 to cover accommodation and travel.

I'm not going to know until June when the committee meets to discus the entry's.

Fingers crossed that I get it, but if I don't, there is no need to worry.

Also you are very lucky, this is my second post in 24 hours. I have never done that before, go me *clicks fingers*

This is BEDA #2 because I am counting my last post as BEDA #1. It was wrote in the early hours of the morning and to me it still felt like the day before. So there.

On a more serious note, today I read, one of the most beautiful comments that I have ever seen. Posted by +Lacey Edwards she wrote;

"You are changing to world a little at a time just by sharing your thoughts."

I am in awe at that sentence.

My short thoughts on YouTube.

At this moment, I’m meant to be writing another article for my job, because that is a thing I do now. But its twenty to two in the morning and I really need to sleep.

As a result of my insomnia, which is a clear indication that I'm a timelord, I've found my way onto youtube. Of course, I've gone through an insane amount of cat videos, along with puppy videos, funny baby videos, fail video, win videos, knife song videos, squirrel videos, Harlem Shake videos, Gangnam Style video and more cat videos. But there is something that, I personally, am finding less off, and thats the endangered species of the vlogger.

By this, I don’t mean vlogger as in the big players, the ones who just make a "ten things I've noticed video", or a "challenge" video to get as many likes and view as possible, I mean, the ones who just talk about life, and talk about what they are thinking, or their random idiosyncrasies that make them interesting and genuinely awesome people.

This thought process started when I stumbled across ImagineJohanna, and I realized that she reminds us why most people started vlogging in the first, to talk about life and to share stories from her past. She doesn't have an agenda, she doesn't want to try to sell you merchandise or make a ton of money, she just wants to tell her story.

At this point I should go on a bit of a rant about how there are no ‘old skool’ vloggers left, but really, we just need to look. Everyone has got a story to tell, but some are just louder than others, it is up to you who you choose to listen to, just make sure you choose wisely.

Have a nice life

In Summly, I'm Feedly My Current FlipBoard While Checking My Pulse

For today's blog post, I thought that I would do something a little bit different. So I am going to review some apps. I've decided that I am going to review feeders. It made sense, I am moving into journalism and I want to be able to access the latest news from as many different organisations as possible.

Google Currents

The first app I tried was Google Currents. Straight away I logged in to my Google account (the dark overlord that tracks our porn) and the blogs that I was subscribed to were there, also quite a few suggestions for other feeds, I very easily add what felt like a million feeds.
The design is very clean and professional, it feels like an app that I can use in the office and the boss won't be over my shoulder every five minutes, however (and this is a personal choice) I don't like that I have to swipe while I am reading the article to read more, not a lot of info is put onto the page.
All said and done, it does do what it says on the tin, it's not a bad app

Feedly

Imagine if you will, the new guy in the office who is young and talented but in a few months time his soul will be crushed by the corporate snakes and he will lose faith in humanity. Feedly is like that new guy, before the soul crushing. Feedly has a much better layout and design then currents and it is quite easy to find what you are looking for.
Under the bonnet there are a few good options to customize the app to your liking. Feedly follows the rule of content is king, the colorful designs are there, but they are hidden in the menus, to allow for more space for the feeds that you want to read. I also like the fact that YouTube videos are embedded into the app, although I would like to be able to sign in to my YouTube account to view my subscription.

FlipBoard

I like things that are flippy, FlipBoard satisfies that need. The child in me spent about 10 minutes messing with the animation. They have clearly thought about the design although personally I don't like drawstring used to access the search menu.
I like that I can connect to my Twitter and Facebook accounts, however I do wish that I could update my accounts from the app, also the Facebook annoying only shows ten updates at a time and takes a good minute or so to download more and one of my friends post takes up a whole screen, there is miles of space that the app wastes. However the bigger design suits twitter and makes it more visually pleasing, however it is not practical for what twitter was designed for. I do wish that i could update my timeline or twitter feed from the app.

Pulse

Pulse could have been really good, it has been let down by it design, the main page looks as if it has been copied from the BBC News app, the only difference is that it has been painted black instead of red. The rest feels soulless and devoid of life and passion. However it does load that content quickly.
But then we get to Facebook integration, it not automatically there, (I signed in with my Facebook account) you have to search for the feed and then add it to your contents, but once you've done that, it will only let you view posts that have links on them, which to me devoid the point of the whole feed.

Summly

Let's start with the good points, visually it is the design equivalent of the best XXX rated app porn, you can also search for content by keywords, so you can find news on certain subject or in a certain area of the world. But it takes forever to update and I think that there are far to many swipe commands.
It also crashed three times during the first start up and twice again during my testing. I really want Summly to be good, I used to have it, before the October update, and I really hoped that it was improved. Sadly it wasn't.

For me it's between Currents and Feedly, they are designed and easy to use, although Feedly is slightly deeper than Currents. The both follow the rule of content is king and don't distract the reading experience with bells and whistles. I think Feedly swings the balance into its favor, but I would love to see social interaction in the form of Facebook, Twitter and other social networks like LinkedIn and Google+.

How did I do on my first app review? Do you agree with my verdict? Did I miss any good apps? Should I do another post like this? If so, how can I make it better?

Choosing My Life

I was sixteen, and I had a grand plan, I was going to be an actor. I wanted to take to stage and dramatically rock the world. I was going to do Performing Arts at College and then go on to one of the big drama schools in the country, glide through the course, star wowing the critics and be having tea with Sir Patrick Stewart by the time I'm 26. Isn't it strange how life throws you a curve-ball.

I don't want to be a actor anymore, I did acting for five years and I have just grown disfranchised with the acting world, for me it has lost it's magic and I have lost my 'mojo.' When I was fifteen, every play was compatible to the greatest thrill ride, now they are just plays. Before I discovered I could act (apparently) I want to be two things; A journalist and an Astrophysicist, in fact I was an award winner in 2008 as a part of BBC School Report. I remember going with the other three members of our group (I think we were the smallest group) and standing in awe at how many big names in journalism were at the ceremony (i.e Jake Humphrey, Adam Fleming, Huw Edwards.) The ceremony went along without incident, afterwards there was food and a chance for everyone to mingle. What surprised me was that there was that there was no egotism, there was just a mutual respect across the room. Then Jake Humphrey (Legend) cam over to our table and said well done to us, he then asked who created the report that played just before we went up to collect our award, everyone else on the table pointed to me. Jake Humphrey, my hero, wants to talk to me.
overly, attached, girlfriend, laina, walker, from, meme, to, tv, presenter, ,
When Jake Humphrey wanted to talk to me, this was my face.
As it turns out, and much to my relief  he didn't kill me. In fact he was impressed with the report he heard and just wanted to talk to me. We chatted of about ten minuets he was incredibly charming, respectful and witty. He talked to me like I was an adult, (i'm 15 at the time) like I was the guy he saw every day at the office. I never felt more respected, the same goes for when I met Adam Fleming and then Huw Edwards (Hue did have to run off to do a bulletin but he came back, he didn't have too)
I had never felt so accepted by so many people, I felt like journalism is where I belonged, so why the heck did I do performing arts?

So i'm going something about it, I am now working with ShoutoutUK. Its only early days right now but I am so happy to back where I feel I belong.

A Blog Post In Tesco.

I've noticed something about my blogging, I do most of it in tesco. I wonder why?

A good thing has happened since my last post, (the story one) I have finally got insurance on my car. I am a free man.

The world is open for business, but I have no idea what to do first, I don't mean career, that sorted out, in a few months time I will be at the bottom of a ladder that I want to climb, rather then halfway up one I don't want to climb. What I mean is sitting in the house is boring, I want to do something now, something that is worth me filling up my tank.

Below is an image of my now organised bookcase.

I'm waiting for an important email

You know that moment when you're waiting for a really important email...that.

I will be honnest, the only reason I'm writing this particular post in the passenger seat of my dad's car, is too take my mind off that important email. Actually, if I ever need to take my mind off things, I tend to write or do something creative.

Today I've been thinking about life, and I've come to this conclusion:

In reality, we are just a tiny bunch of dust, carbon and oxygen, that clings on too a rock thats blasting around a giant ball of gas at 67,062mph.

Oh, and that little blue rock that we are riding on is joined by other spinning rocks and gas giants which all orbit around the sun in a perfect clockwork ballet.

The powerhouse that we all fly around is joined by other shining powerhouses that all together take a comsmic carousel the dark unknown void at the centre of our galaxy

And this galaxy is part an incredably huge cosmos of countless other galaxy's of which we are yet, if we are even able, to put a number too

We are here by pure chance, so many different events happened at just the right time, to give us this little haven in the void of space. All it would of taken for us to have never existed, was one tiny chemical reaction to not happen.

The point I'm trying to make is this. We are undeniably small(and lucky), yet we think we are something bigger and that make us incredibly dangerous.

And just like our journey upto this point, it only take one tiny thing to wipe us all out So please, if your reading this, don't ruin it, we've only got one shot.

Professor Brian Cox, Alex Day and Sex

I have no idea what I want to write, I am at that stage where I've got quite a few ideas, but I don't think that any of them are good enough.

I could very easily post a rant about I hate bias right wing media, but I am sure that there are many other bloggers and writers who have done it better then I could ever hope to do. I really want to do a series of posts about the planets in our solar system, but Professor Brian Cox has done it so much better then I have. (I'm pretty sure he is a time lord, no human could be that intelligent.) I'd love to write about my favorite books, but I'm worried that I'd end up not doing the books any justice and alienating the authors.

That's my problem, I'm always worried about what other people are saying about me and the stuff that I do. I know I shouldn't worry but I think its something that all humans do, the exception to that rule is Alex Day (a.k.a Nerimon) who really doesn't seem to care what you think, he just does what he wants to do, and tells the internet about that time his mother heard him having sex and then complemented him on his stamina the next morning, I wish I could be a bit more open.

So I've made a decision, I no longer care what you think, I am going to be more like myself because I'm pretty sure that life becomes that little bit more fun when I start doing this.

Peter The Plane

There is a note at the bottom of this post that explains this story

Peter The Plane
By Thomas Sanderson.

Every little plane dreams of flying high in the sky, soaring in the clouds and gliding with the birds. This dream was no different for Peter, he wanted to be the fastest of all the planes, but there was one problem, he didn't known how to.

Every day after school, he would go to runway 32 and try taking off, but just as he gets on the runway, the big jets land from out of nowhere and their loud engines really really scare Peter.
"You cannot fly, your just a silly little plane" said Ryan, Ryan was the nastiest of the Jets, He would pick on peter for no reason, Peter never understood why, Peter did not do anything to make Ryan nasty.

All he wanted to do is to be friends with all the other planes but every time those big Jets land, Peter gets really scared and rushes back to his hanger

A few days later, Peter tries again, he finishes school and goes back to runway 32 but as every other day, those nasty Jets would land just as Peter gets to the runway.
"Oh, look there's that silly little peter again, with his stupid little wings" mocks Jake, another one of the nasty Jets. Soon three other jets were picking on him, they were poking and prodding him, call him names and making Peter feel really really horrible.

The Jets had scared Peter so much that he was too frighted to go back to the runway, but he still wanted to fly.

A few days later, Peter looks up into the sky and sees a different plane, it was flying so fast that he nearly falls backwards, this was the kind of plane that Peter wanted to be, yet Peter had never seen this plane before, this new plane was much older then all of the other planes, and yet The Jets left him alone.

When the new plane landed, he saw Peter hide away. Wondering why peter was so afraid, the old plane, goes over to Peter. Suddenly it dawned on Peter, this old plane was a spitfire.

Spitfires are the fastest, quickest and most agile off all the planes, they are legendary, but peter always thought that the Spitfires no longer existed, and yet there was one right there in front of him. Peter does not know what to do, He cowered up and his landing tires started shaking out of fear of what this spitfire was going to say to him.

"Hello, are you alright there" asked The Spitfire

Peter was almost too frighted to say anything. The Spitfire was the most fantastic airplane that Peter had ever seen in his life, everything about The Spitfire was perfect, the way The Spitfire flew high in the sky, the sun reflecting off it's wings, the shine of the green paint, the proud but wise stature that The Spitfire held it's self in. While Peter was standing in amazement at this Sight. The Spitfire talks;

"My Name is Phillip, whats yours." Peter summoned up all of his courage form the depths of his engines and very nervously replied with,
"I'm...P-P-P Peter, c-c-c-can you t-t-t-teach me to fly like that"
"I thought you would already know how to fly, seeing as though you are a young Spitfire." Chuckled Philip

Peter could not believe his ears, In front of him was a Spitfire, and that this spitfire is telling him that he was one of them, this was Peters dream, all along he had wanted to be a Spitfire, and yet, he already was one, he just didn't know it. Just as he is trying to bring himself back together, he catches a glimpse of him self in the glass of the airport, were Peter's eyes deceiving, was he really this beautiful looking machine, with wings that reflect the suns and green paint that shines.

"I do not know how to fly, noone has ever taught me" explained Peter, "But I have always dreamed of flying like you"
"You can" said Phillip, "You have always been able to fly, you just need to find it in your heart, and when you have found that, you can do anything to you set your mind too."
For the first time in his young life, Peter had something to believe in, he was going to fly, but he still very nervous.
"Why don't we go to the runway?" Suggested Phillip, "You can take off from there"
"I do not want to go there, those big Jet are there and I really do not want them to pick on me again."
"Don't worry" said Philip calmly "I'm here, and those Jets are not going anywhere near you, remember your a Spitfire, it's them who should be afraid"

As Peter and Phillip took up there places at the start of the runway, the Jet were nearby, ready to mock Peter once again, but just as the three Jets moved in, Peter and Philip started up their engines, beginning to build up speed along the runway, the two Spitfires get faster and faster, Peter can just feel him self getting lighter and lighter, racing along the runway faster then a gray-hound chasing a hare.

Before he knows it, Peter is gaining altitude, and is getting higher and higher, Peter is flying, and now he can believe it.

"Let's have some fun." said Phillip who flying along side him. No sooner had Philip finished saying that last sentence, Peter started doing loop-the-loop's in the air; much to the astonishment of the Jet's, and no matter how hard they tried, they could not keep up with the two spitfires.

Peter really was flying high in the sky, soaring in the clouds and gliding with the birds.

So, whenever you look into sky, and you see a plane flying around in sky, remember, there is nothing stopping you from joining Peter in the sky.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you've managed to get through all of that, well done, if you didn't, go back and read it, I will not have people cheating on this blog just so they can get to the special note that is written at the bottom of the post, you must read like it everyone else.

I wrote this short story last year when I was doing Performing Arts at college, this was part of the scriptwriting unit, each week we wrote something different and eventuality we write one big final script. This is a children's story, it taught me that I'm not meant to write children's stories, however this was fun to write so I thought why not post it and let other people enjoy it. Also as I'm writing this note it occurred to me that 'Peter The Plane' is just the ugly duckling but with planes.

At the beginning I mention runway 32, it's just happens that 32 is number of the bus that I used to take to go to college, so if i was to add three and two, I would get five, now if i take my lucky number, which is four and add five, which is the number of characters that usually reside at 742 Evergreen Terrace, I would get nine.

Now, if I take the number of Jeremy Clarkson books that I own, which come to six and add that to £4.24 which is the amount of money that have in a money box on my desk, I get £10.24 or 1024, now I'm going to double that, because I have two hands, I get 2048.

I now need to put these numbers together 5/9/2048.

The world is going to end on 5th September 2048. Beat that Mayans.

A Lovely And Compleatly Harmless Introduction To My Blog.

So this is my blog, A pretty bog standard affair if you ask me. I've been meaning to start one of these for ages, but never really got off my abnormally large behind to actually do it, well until now.

I have no fixed agenda for this blog, I am simply going to write about stuff which interests me, and quite honesty I don't care if you like or dislike the subjects I write about, I'm just going to write about them,

I guess you want to know a little about me, well my name is Tom.

Admittedly it is very hard to write about something, when that something that you are writing about is nothing, but some how I'm still doing it, also I'm going to brake each paragraph up by pressing enter, I know it is not proper grammar, but I don't care, it's a blog not a newspaper.

Also if you get into a argument with me, please do not use The Sun as your source, as it immediately invalidates your argument. The Sun is simply right-winged, single agenda gossip that features someone taking their clothes off on page 3. It is not real journalism. I think The Sun and others like it is the reason Britain has lost faith in its journalist, the very people who are suppose to hold those in power to account, and give us a voice. Of course, as I write this, I am aware that there are thousands of fantastic journalist who do a great job keeping those in power in check and stick their necks on the line to bring us the truth, we should be reading their work and the not The Sun.

This was only meant to be a friendly introduction, still could be worse, I could be Nick Clegg.
